Schizophrenia, a serious mental illness, affects 300,000 Canadian men and women with equal frequency. It most often appears in men in their late teens or early twenties, and women in their late twenties or early thirties. It impairs the ability to think clearly, manage emotions, make decisions and relate to others. It may induce loss of contact with reality. No single, simple course of treatment yet exists.

Schizophrenia Community Radio gives voice to individuals living with schizophrenia, to their family caregivers and families, and to their healthcare and social services providers.

The broadcasts are archived to support research into schizophrenia, the challenges it creates, and the support it needs.

Sharing experiences tells individuals, their families and family caregivers that they are not alone. Sharing trustworthy, understandable and useful information gives hope that recovery from mental illness is possible with the support of a caring community.
