Judy Piatkus founded her independent publishing company Piatkus Books from her bedroom in the early 1980s. She was married and had three children. Her eldest daughter has cerebral palsy. Over the next 25 years she grew it into one of the leading independent book publishing companies in the English-speaking world. Piatkus Books was a pioneer of new ideas in personal development, and alternative health. Piatkus supported new novelists and licenced the rights to some of America’s greatest commercial novelists into the UK and abroad. Nigel Vardy

Mountaineer, motivational speaker and author, Nigel Vardy is a record breaking climber, who describes himself as ‘6”2, blue eyed and scarred. Nigel has taken part in many climbs and adventures around the world. In 1999, he suffered severe frostbite climbing on Mt McKinley in Alaska, leading to the amputation of his toes and fingers.
