You’ve probably heard people say that running is hard on the body. It wears out knees, chews up backs, causes cartilage loss and arthritis. Well, what if everything you’ve heard was wrong? What if running didn’t break your body down but actually built it up? What if running didn’t wear your knees out but instead strengthened them? Join me and my special guest, Matt Whitehead, a experienced and avid runner and the clinic director of The Egoscue Clinic in Portland, Oregon, as we discuss running and how to do it without breaking your body down. We’ll talk about the facts about running’s impact on your body and topics like how to learn how to run properly, what are your best choices in running footwear, and we’ll give you specific things you can do immediately before and after you run to help your body run efficiently and pain free, and how to stay that way! If you want to keep running pain free or get back to it, do not miss this show.
Stop Your Pain!
Wednesday at 1 PM Pacific Time on VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness Channel
Our show will help you understand why you have pain, help you fix the pain, and to take away the fear. PAIN is not the problem! In fact the problem is rarely located where the pain is. Pain is the body’s way of telling us something is wrong. We are going to give people the perspective and tools to be able to understand and heal their pain without drugs, surgery or manipulation.
On our show we will discuss a variety of pain-related topics, plus we look forward to taking your calls and emails. We want to help you understand the real source of your pain and what to do about it, how to treat the core problem instead of chasing symptoms.
Our goal is to educate, inform and inspire, to help you understand things can get better, starting right now. You don’t have to keep living with pain. Take back control of your life, and join the Pain Free Movement! Stop Your Pain airs live every Wednesday at 1 PM Pacific Time on the VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness Channel.
Rick Mathes
Rick Mathes is the Clinic Director of the Egoscue Clinic in Austin, Texas. Egoscue is a simple but powerful form of postural therapy that has helped millions of people around the world get out of pain and get back to doing the things they love to do. The Egoscue process involves a series of stretches and gentle exercises selected and sequenced specifically for each client. This process strengthens specific muscles and brings the body back to its proper alignment, back to functioning the way it was designed—pain free. Since he and his wife Theresa opened the Austin Clinic in 2003, they have helped thousands of people eliminate pain and get their lives back, without using drugs, surgery or manipulation.
In 1992, Rick was in a near-fatal car accident. He went through an aggressive physical therapy protocol 6 days per week for nearly 2 years that when completed, left him still in constant, debilitating pain. He was even told that he would never be able to run or playing tennis again and would most likely be in a wheelchair by age 50 or 60 due to arthritic degeneration in his spine. At the age of 37, he had two badly herniated discs in his lower back and was in so much pain he couldn’t tie his own shoes.
Rick began Egoscue as a client. After just one year of beginning his regiment, he was able to toss his medications and both run and play tennis again, pain free! He now feels that it is his mission to help others also get out of pain and get their lives back.
