Episode Description

This “Power of STEM” episode examines emerging practices and challenges facing the STEM community. We focus on the actions that companies, international organizations, government agencies, communities, professionals, students and parents can take to seize the opportunities that translate into jobs and thriving careers. While 50% of jobs today require some degree of technological skill, ASTRA projects that 77% of jobs will require such skills by 2023. Of concern, less than 15% of U.S. college undergraduates are currently pursuing degrees in science or engineering. In comparison, more than 30% of Indian and 40% of Chinese college undergraduates are pursuing degrees in science or engineering. Given this economic outlook, STEM emerges into everyone’s business. Whether you are a company partnering or investing in STEM programs to advance your strategic goals, a community-based organization offering opportunities to attract students and workers to enroll in programs or apply for competitive grants and scholarships, policy makers providing legislation that is inclusive of people in all communities, a student exploring areas of study and employment or parents investing in your child’s future, STEM initiatives and programs affects all of us. Join the call to see how you can get involved in shaping current and future employment opportunities.
