Episode Description

Emotions can make life messy. They cloud judgment, skew reality, and short-circuit relationships. Although emotions are part of the human experience, expressing them in the workplace, especially for women, is still considered taboo. While evading emotions may cause you to lose the support and trust you need, “over emoting” might result in others perceiving you as “soft,” “difficult,” and unable to control your impulses. Leaders, regardless of the organization or community they serve, must tap into and capitalize on the power of emotions rather than avoid them. Dr. Pat Baxter, a leadership development expert who is certified in Emotional Intelligence (EI) assessment, will provide guidance on intelligently using emotions to benefit your professional and personal relationships. She’ll discuss the reasons that emotional intelligence is essential to succeeding as a leader, and how to effectively bring EI into daily practice.
