Paul Root Wolpe, Ph.D.

Paul Root Wolpe, Ph.D. is the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Bioethics, Raymond F. Schinazi Distinguished Research Professor of Jewish Bioethics, & the Director of the Center for Ethics at Emory University. He is also Senior Bioethicist at NASA. Dr. Wolpe is Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Bioethics Neuroscience. A founder of the field of neuroethics, which examines the ethical implications of neuroscience, he also writes about other emerging technologies, such as genetic engineering, nanotechnology, prosthetics, and new reproductive technologies. He is also a speaker and consultant on ethical leadership and integrity. The winner of the 2011 World Technology Network Award in Ethics, Dr. Wolpe was designated as an Atlantic Magazine “Brave Thinker of 2011,” was profiled in the Science Times of the NY Times, and has appeared on 60 Minutes. He has recorded a popular TED Talk and serves on the Committee for the Conduct of Responsible Science of the National Academies.
