Mark Staniforth

Mark Staniforth is an Adjunct Professor at La Trobe University and Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He received his M.A. in History from the University of Sydney (1993) and his Ph.D. from Flinders University, Adelaide (1999). Mark is one of leading maritime archaeologists with extensive experience in historical archaeology, maritime archaeology, museum and heritage studies gained during a thirty-year career. He is the author of numerous articles as well as books, including “Material Culture and Consumer Society.” He is an elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and a member of two International Scientific Committees - International Committee on Archaeological Heritage Management and International Committee on Underwater Cultural Heritage. Currently Mark is a member of the Bach Dang and Van Don Battlefield Research Projects as well as one of the three Chief Investigators for The Australian Historic Shipwreck Protection Project.
