Michelle Atkin

Michelle Atkin is a breastfeeding advocate and parenting coach in the U.K. For the past 12 years, she has worked to support parents in their infant feeding choices, and she developed the first peer-based breastfeeding support organization. Employing more than 100 peers, the company has served more than 30,000 mothers. Michelle has worked with regional and national government on breastfeeding-related policies and was a lead partner on the successful “Be a Star” social media campaign to reach young mothers. She is a persuasive public speaker who has spoken on effective breastfeeding support at UNICEF, international, and national conferences. Her recent efforts are on breastfeeding past the first birthday and child-lead weaning. She notes that Western culture is out of kilter with nature, leading to premature weaning. The mother of seven children, ages 4 to 27 years, Michelle draws on parenting and professional experience to make the case for breastfeeding beyond the first year.
