Dr. David Ohlms
Dr. David Ohlms is CenterPointe Hospital's Medical Director for Chemical Dependency Services. He is a psychiatrist who has specialized in addiction disease for 40 years. Dr. Ohlms an internationally recognized expert in the field of addiction, and is perhaps best known for popularizing the concept that alcoholism is a primary disease. Dr. Ohlms earned his certification in addiction medicine from the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) in 1986 and was appointed a Fellow of the Society in 1997. In 2006, he was named a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In 2007 he received the Missourian Award for having pioneered changes in the treatment of addictions in his home state of Missouri.
