Dr. Michael Groat

Dr. Michael Groat, Director of Menninger’s Adult Division, also serves as assistant professor, Menninger Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Baylor College of Medicine. He received his master’s degree at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and his doctorate in counseling psychology from the State University of New York, Albany. He interned at Albany Psychology Internship Consortium, Albany Medical College, Albany, NY; completed a four year clinical psychology fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy, family therapy and systems consultations at the Austen Riggs Center, Stockbridge, Mass. He is a current candidate in adult psychoanalysis at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies, Houston. He is a past fellow of the American Psychoanalytic Association and Anna Freud/Yale Child Study Center research program. Dr. Groat’s interests concern mentalizing informed treatments, personality assessment, suicide resilience and therapeutic.
