Susan Mellen
In 1997, Susan Mellen, a mother of three, was falsely accused of committing the gruesome murder of Rick Daly. At the time, Susan was living with her boyfriend, Tom, and her two youngest children, Jessica (9) and Donnie (7). She was a gentle and doting mother, but succumbed the use of methamphetamine when she was in her early 30's. Susan dated Rick Daly briefly but the relationship ended when Rick went to jail. Susan met and she and her children moved in with Tom. Rick was released from jail. About the time Rick was released, Susan and Tom were in the midst of moving to Gardena, California. Several miles away, three Lawndale gang members savagely attacked and murdered Rick Daly. Nevertheless, the investigation targeted Susan.
