Rear Admiral Dave Oliver, USN (Ret.)

Rear Admiral Dave Oliver, USN (Ret.), author of Against the Tide: Rickover’s Leadership Principles and the Rise of the Nuclear Navy. Hyman G. Rickover was known as the “Father of the Nuclear Navy,” and the most famous and controversial admiral of his era. The longest-serving naval officer in U.S. history, he served for 63 years active duty and was one of the world’s greatest engineers. Oliver served under Rickover during much of his 30-year career in the Navy. The book illustrates how Rickover had a unique impact on American and Navy culture. Rickover’s achievements have been obscured mainly because they largely were conducted in secret, and because he possessed a demanding and abrasive personality which alienated many potential supporters.
