Sharon Murphy Mattia was born and raised in Charles County, MD. Mrs. Mattia began her State career in July 1984 when she joined the small staff at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home as the Assistant to the Commandant. In the over 30 years at Charlotte Hall she has been an integral part in the operation and expansion of the Home, watching it grow from 4 residents and 20 staff, to the current occupancy of 417 residents and over 400 employees. Mrs. Mattia’s dedication to the Home and its residents culminated in June, 2008, when she accepted the position of Director, Veterans Home Program, serving as the Contract Manager for the State of Maryland Veterans Home Operations. The day-to-day operation of the Home is the responsibility of the contractor, HMR of Maryland. As Director, she is responsible for monitoring the operation of facility to ensure contract compliance with Federal, State and local regulations and to provide oversight of resident care, fiscal management and support services. Mrs. Mattia represents the MD Department of Veterans Affairs in contacts with Federal, State and local elected officials. She is responsible for preparing and administering the Home’s annual operating budget and capital improvement projects. She serves as the on-site advocate for residents and responds to inquires by residents, family and elected officials. • Member Tri-County Veterans Advisory Council • Member National Association of State Veterans Home • Certified Licensed Assisted Living Manger, State of Maryland • Certified Dementia Care Practitioner Mrs. Mattia enjoys the daily contact with the veterans and is dedicated to leading Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in achieving an even higher standard of excellence for Maryland’s only State Veterans Home.
