April Lane Benson, Ph.D., is a nationally known psychologist, in practice in New York City for over 35 years, who specializes in the treatment of compulsive buying disorder. A pioneer in this area, Dr. Benson’s books include I Shop, Therefore I Am: Compulsive Buying and the Search for Self and To Buy or Not to Buy: Why We Overshop and How to Stop. Research on her highly effective program for stopping overshopping was published in the June, 2014 edition of the Journal of Groups in Addiction and Recovery. Dr. Benson recently launched the Stopping Overshopping Text Messaging Program, a 3-month interactive program designed as a jumpstart for people who are just beginning their journey toward mindful shopping. She has been interviewed on radio, including The Diane Rehm Show and the Brian Lehrer Show and television, including The Today Show, Good Morning America, and a role in the documentary What Would Jesus Buy?
