Dr. Erica Misako Boas
Dr. Erica Misako Boas is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Liberal Studies Program at Santa Clara University and a Lecturer in the Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Department at San Jose State University. Her broad research interest includes the articulations of sexuality and race in institutions of schooling. In addition to “Consent Stories” with Dr. Jason Laker, Dr. Boas is currently working on a research project that examines the organization of sexuality in elementary schools as she investigates ways to implement new approaches toward the elimination of sexual violence within schools and beyond. She is author of “Education in Disguise: Sanctioning Sexuality in Elementary School Halloween Celebrations” in Sex Education and has written chapters for Sexualities and Education and the Handbook of Critical Race Theory in Education. She received her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Education at the University of California at Berkeley.
