Carole Herman
A Successful software marketing entrepreneur whose aunt died from neglect and abuse in a local nursing home, Carole Herman organized a grass-roots elder abuse advocacy in 1982 named Foundation Aiding The Elderly (FATE) in Sacramento, CA, where she is president and Board Chair. FATE assists those who have friends and relatives in long-term care facilities with suspected abuse, neglect and civil rights violations and often initiates action on serious allegations. She works closely with federal and state regulatory agencies and with attorneys representing victims of maltreatment. A recipient of awards for her efforts, Herman has served on several state boards, the most recent the Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission, and has participated legislative and oversight hearings. She is a popular speaker on the aging, has been the subject of a number of news and magazine article, including Family Circle, and has appeared on notable TV shows such as Geraldo and Sally Jessy Rafael.
