The Sufi mystic and poet Jalaluddin Rumi lived in the 13th Century in Persia. He is known and loved for his poetry expressing the ecstasies and mysteries of love in all of its forms, erotic, platonic, and divine. To this day Rumi’s contribution to consciousness through his radical practice of gazing meditation, and his exquisite poetry is revered, studied, practice, and enjoyed worldwide. In 1244 a most extraordinary event occurred in the history of Sufism when Rumi meet a fellow seeker Shams-i-Tabriz. After meeting, they entered into a private retreat and emerged 90 days later in a transformed state. The two men sat and simply gazed into each other’s eyes; the portals to the soul. Tune in this week as we delve into Rumi’s Radical Practice of Beholding the Divine as it is presented and translated by Will Johnson. We will also explore some of Rumi’s poems of ecstasy and longing that have been translated and presented by Coleman Barks. If the beloved is everywhere, the lover is a veil.
