Accessibility is more than wheelchair ramps and modified bathroom stalls. The Disability Rights Movement that began in the early 1970s helped to secure equal opportunities and equal rights for people with disabilities. The outdated custodial care model which lacked personal autonomy was replaced with a person centered approach. The closing of institutions in favor of community living helped to foster a new openness for inclusion. Citizen advocacy groups to support people with disabilities led to client rights committees that promote self-advocacy. Access to leisure activities was achieved through Snoezelen Multisensory Environments which paved the way for access to a wide range of health and wellness services. Opportunities for self-actualization have been experienced through the creative arts. We’ve come a long way in realizing that true accessibility includes the freedom to choose from the full spectrum of life experience. Join me this week for a holistic approach to access ability.

Leah Brenda Smith

I have always held the vision of a peaceful world inhabited by a loving population. My pursuit of consciousness began in 1972 at the Institute of Applied Metaphysics. Since then I have studied, practiced, and taught many conventional and nonconventional approaches to religion, philosophy, meditation, movement, writing, music, art, and energy-based healing modalities.

I am a Certified Reiki Master, and founder of both The Divine Lineage of Reiki, and Bone Medicine. I have experience treating many chronic conditions, working with individuals recovering from abuse and addictions, and providing palliative care and bereavement support.

I am also certified in Snoezelen, Craniosacral Therapy, NLP, hypnosis, and channeling. I received the Who’s Who Outstanding Health & Wellness VIP of the year for 2011-2012.

I have provided therapeutic and life skills services to people with developmental disabilities, as well as sign language interpreting for the deaf, and opportunities for people with disabilities to learn about, practice and celebrate Jewish life.

I continue to serve humanity as an international teacher, lecturer, practitioner, and coach – in person, via Skype or by phone.

What her clients are saying: “Leah provides practical information that is easy to apply.” “Leah’s 15 minute treatment gave me the same benefit as the best one hour treatment of any kind.” “Leah’s classes are a delightful expression of spirit.” The bottom line is, fabulous!
