Now Playing:Embody Your Movement: Love the Body You Live In!

[Bookmark] Functional exercise and postural training have become popular buzz words in the health and fitness industries. We hear that better posture and functional flow leads to better performance. We seek out exercises to help us move more efficiently, and work to correct our alignment for optimal posture. But it’s not what we do a few times a week that shapes the fluidity with which we move. It’s how we live in our bodies – how we move and think consistently – that determines how we deal with the world! On today’s show, we’re talking to Eric Franklin about his method for understanding and embodying our movement through imagery. The Franklin method addresses movement where it is learned - in the brain - and uses sensory imagery to stimulate the body to fluid action. Join us as we explore how we can use imagery to fully realize the hidden potential for movement in our bodies. Learn to love the body you live in!

Susannah Steers

Susannah Steers began a life-long career in movement on the dance floor. After years training and working as a dancer, teacher and choreographer, and with a well-worn pair of knees, Susannah realized that despite being “fit and healthy” by traditional standards, her body needed some serious TLC!

Training and certification as a Pilates practitioner not only saved her knees, but opened the doors to a whole new way of thinking about movement and physical fitness. Continued studies in functional conditioning, anatomy, craniosacral therapy and fascial facilitation, contact improvisation and alternative movement practices have contributed to the evolution of Susannah’s holistic, integrated and highly sensory approach to movement training.
