Episode Description

Today's guest is living proof that it is never too late to turn your life around. Julie D. Summers, author of an upcoming memoir, OFF MY KNEES: From Skid Row to Sunset Boulevard, has seen it all. With a troubled and unavailable mom, who sends her off as a teen with a man who rapes her, and a dad who died when she was 12, Julie was left to fend for herself. An unwed mom at 18, persuaded to give her baby up for adoption, and desperate to get him back, she ends up in prostitution. Her life is a roller-coaster of jail, prison, addiction, affairs, Hell's Angels, and much more... until she lifts herself up and is finally successful at turning her life around. She becomes a landlord of an apartment building on Sunset Blvd. and dedicates herself to helping the homeless-for which she has won numerous awards. She hopes her story will "prevent young people, currently in foster homes, from going into the penal system" and to inspire anyone who has felt hopeless about turning their life around.
