Joyce welcomes Jeffrey Hawting, president of LC Industries to the show. Mr. Hawting will discuss the mission of LC Industries. The sole mission of LC Industries is to provide meaningful employment for people who are blind. As one of the nation’s largest employers of the blind, LC Industries offers opportunities, skills and training to individuals who are blind and low vision to help them cultivate a job into a rewarding career. Since 1936, the core of LC Industries has always been manufacturing, but through the years this non-profit corporation has continued to grow and evolve into a multi-faceted entity. Today, LC Industries’ business capabilities range from manufacturing and distribution to retail and e-commerce. Headquartered in Durham, NC, LC Industries operates two distribution centers, four e-commerce websites, six manufacturing facilities, and over 35 retail stores on military bases across the United States.

Joyce A. Bender is the CEO and president of Bender Consulting Services, Inc. Bender Consulting recruits and hires individuals with disabilities, across the United States and Canada for competitive career opportunities in the public and private sectors. In 1985, Joyce survived a life-threatening accident caused by a misdiagnosis of epilepsy. Due to her personal experience living with both epilepsy and a hearing disability, she founded Bender Consulting Services, Inc. in 1995.
Joyce is the past-chair of both the board of the American Association of People with Disabilities and the national Epilepsy Foundation. She has received awards from both the Bush and Clinton administrations.
