Can you imagine 30,000 high school student athletes shooting clay targets with a shotgun. Welcome to the USA Clay Target League, the sanctioning body for the USA High School Clay Target League that features 800+ teams in more than 20 states. Approximately 30,000 student athletes are a part of those 800+ teams. This week Marty visits with John Nelson, the President of the USA Clay Target League that was founded in 2008. Marty and John will talk all things youth and team shooting and provide information about how you can start a high school team in your area. For the record, the USA High School Clay Target League is a part of the largest clay target event in the world - the Minnesota State High School Trap Shooting Championship. This event is hole over nine days and features more than 8,500 competitors - all high school student athletes. Marty will also have the Wing & Clay News for this week as well as other bits of information that you can use.

Marty Fischer
Marty Fischer is one of America’s best-known outdoor celebrities. A graduate of Georgia Southern College, he has been an outdoor television host for almost three decades on shows like Suzuki Great Outdoors on ESPN, Shotgun Journal on the Outdoor Life Network, TNT Outdoor Explosion and “If It Flies…” on the Pursuit Channel. He is a well-known outdoor writer who has authored two books, The Gun Digest Book of Shotgunning and Limbhangers and 4-Letter Words, a book on turkey hunting. In addition to his books, he has written articles for many of the top outdoor magazines on the market. Marty is a NSCA Level III Certified Instructor who has been coaching wing and clay shooters for more than 35 years. He was recently called “the most famous left handed wingshooter in the world” by the popular Shotgun Life website. He is an avid upland bird, waterfowl and turkey hunter who has harvested more than 100,000 gamebirds in 11 countries on four continents around the world and in more than 35 U.S. states. Marty has been a finalist in the World Duck Calling Championship in Stuttgart, Arkansas on four occasions, including a Top 5 finish in that event. He is also a public speaker and President of SportShooting Consultants, Ltd., a gun club design and consulting company that he has owned and managed since 1992.
