Encore Managing Up: How to Move Up, Win at Work, and Succeed with Any Type of Boss
March 30, 2020
Hosted by Tom Crea
Our bosses have enormous influence over our ability to succeed, thrive, and advance in our organizations, in our careers and in our own leadership journey. Establishing strong, productive working relationships with those above us is the single most effective way to accelerate success in any organization. Managing up is not about brown nosing, sucking up, or becoming a sycophant. It is about consciously and deliberatively developing and maintaining effective relationships with supervisors, bosses, and other people above you in the chain of command. It is a deliberate effort to increase cooperation and collaboration in a relationship between individuals who often have different perspectives and uneven power levels. It is about is consciously working with your boss to obtain the best possible results. Managing up is about you taking charge of your workplace experience. Managing Up is about helping people succeed with the boss that they actually have--not the boss they wish they had.

“Your Evolving Leadership Journey” is for anyone who believes continuous learning is part of the ongoing leadership journey.
“Companies that did business from a foundation of love and purpose and practiced servant leadership produced a 1026 percent return to shareholders over a ten-year period, eight times more than the so-called Good to Great companies.” (Coetzer, 2019)
With a slant towards servant leadership, Tom interviews contemporary authors to drill down on topics such as long-distance leadership, resilience, clarity, culture, developing others, individual behavior, persuasion, managing up, spiritual best practices, character, values, trust and more.
Tom Crea is a leadership expert, decorated career Army Officer, and Blackhawk Helicopter pilot who learned to lead in a culture with a lineage of servant leaders. Because of his proven skills, he was hand selected to run the Army’s leadership development program at two Boston colleges, where he and his team transformed college students into combat leaders.
Tom is a Servant Leadership ambassador and the author of “Unleash Your Values: How to Lead and Succeed in Business Today: A Helicopter Pilot’s Spin on Developing the Leader in You.”
