Episode Description

The Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve is under assault... from people and organizations that claim to be pro-environment. They plan to completely bulldoze over the 640 acres that form Ballona Wetlands, the last coastal wetlands in Los Angeles, in the Playa del Rey region. And, with some nerve, the proponents claim this obliteration is actually a "restoration." 1,700 species call this pristine sliver of wildlife home. They would all be pushed out.. wiped out. We are talking foxes, owls, egrets, lizards.. and many, many other species. Critics say the real agenda is to allow the fossil fuel industry to get in there are refurbish the crumbling gas infrastructure that lies beneath the wetlands. Some of the key proponents have gotten funding from the fossil fuel industry. If this can happen in progressive, environmentally-friendly LA, it will open the floodgates for the destruction of wetlands everywhere! How can you help? Watch, share. Visit DefendBallonaWetlands.org and get involved!
