In this episode Zach is first joined by Karl Shallowhorn, an Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor with over 19 years experience. The two discuss how Karl became involved in the field of addiction recovery and his knowledge and personal experience with treating co-occurring disorders. The two also touch on the practice of motivational interviewing and its benefits as part of a recovery program. Following Karl, Zach is joined by Andrew Spiers, a licensed social worker and the Director of Training & Technical Assistance at Pathways to Housing, a non-profit working to end chronic homelessness for individuals with co-occurring disorders in Pennsylvania. The two discuss Andrew's journey into working in the field of addiction recovery, and more specifically his work as Lead Therapist at RHD’s Morris Home, the only residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program in the U.S. exclusively serving members of the transgender and gender non-conforming community.

Zachary Crouch

Zachary Crouch is the National Business Development Manager and former administrator for Landmark Recovery, a Louisville based residential program for drug and alcohol treatment. His background in the treatment field as a counselor includes work with the adolescent, adult and family population. Additionally, he also operated the acute medical detoxification unit for Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. Zachary graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology and earned his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2009.
