The Pioneer Network has been a leader in the culture change movement for how we treat and care for residents of nursing homes and Penny Cook has been the leader in that movement for many years. This episode will focus on the meaning of culture change, Pioneer Network's latest initiatives, including the acronym CHANGE and what it stands for, what some leaders are doing to change the model of care in their nursing homes so they provide a more dignified and respectful living environment, and what providers of traditional models can do to make small changes that make a big difference. The discussion will continue with the importance of how we can go about educating families so that they understand the possibilities eventuating in them becoming advocates so their loved ones receive quality care in nursing homes. We will entertain the idea that ageism is a root cause for how we treat and care our aging parents and eldest citizens and what we can do change attitudes towards older people in society as a whole.
