Episode Description

A recent poll conducted by animal rights group Mercy For Animals made public a groundbreaking survey, which found that 81% of military service members believe the military should provide its members plant-based meals ready to eat (MREs). Join Mercy For Animals' expert Frances Chrzan to discuss details about the survey results, its implications, and why MFA is encouraging the public to urge Congress to support the inclusion of a requirement in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act that plant-based MRE options be made available to all U.S. military service members. In addition, Combat Veteran Bill Muir, known as Sargent Vegan, discusses how he survived as a vegan in the Army. Bill left a cushy job teaching English in Japan after 9/11 to join the Army as a Combat Medic. Vegan since 1992, Bill adhered to his plant-fueled diet throughout his rigorous Army training and deployment to Afghanistan, although it wasn't easy.
