When it comes to equity vs equality in education, the terms are often used interchangeably. But understanding the distinction between the two is essential for resolving issues faced by disadvantaged students in the classroom. While working towards equity and equality can both do good, equity should be an educator’s end goal. The reason lies in the difference between being fair vs equal. Join us, along with James Ford, Marta Duran, Joanne Jenkins, and Shelly Biby as we identify what is possible in terms of creating equity in our schools and in our communities.

Ross Danis is the president & CEO of MeckEd, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based non-profit dedicated to ensuring access to opportunity for all children. Dr. Danis’ 40 years of service as a teacher, staff developer, school principal, curriculum director, foundation executive, university dean, and non-profit leader, is fueled by his abiding belief in the power of public education to transform lives. Dr. Danis has served as an appointee to the education task forces, commissions, and education policy transition teams of four governors and six education commissioners. He has taught educational leadership to doctoral students in 36 states and seven countries on four continents. As the president & CEO of MeckEd, Dr. Danis continues to empower educators, policymakers, and community members with the knowledge and resources necessary to ensure that all children have access to the education they deserve, and the experiences necessary to thrive.
