Plans for the Incoming Obama Administration and the 111th Congress; Infrastructure Spending in the Economic Stimulus Package; Foreign Relations Challenges for the new President
January 8, 2009
Hosted by Squire Patton Boggs
Barack Obama is less than two weeks away from becoming the 44th President of the United States and assuming control of a federal government handling an unprecedented array of domestic and foreign problems. Darryl Nirenberg, former Chief of Staff for United States Senator Jesse Helms, and Stephanie Peters, former Democratic counsel to the House Judiciary Committee, talk about the challenges that await the new President and the Congress that took office earlier this week. Then, we talk about rebuilding America via the stimulus package Congress intends to pass in the next 60 days. Our first focus is transportation infrastructure in the stimulus package and our guests are Bob Burleson from the Florida Transportation Builders Association and Marco Giambardino with the Associated General Contractors of America. Next, we look at the foreign affairs dilemmas the new President is inheriting with our special guest, former Ambassador Philip Kaplan.
