Episode Description

Claus Vogt, live from Germany, will speak about his latest book: The Global Debt Trap: How to Escape the Danger and Build a Fortune. We will speak about how what is now called the great recession, including the banking or financial system crisis that was not a market failure but a failure in monetary policy through the Central Bank. If U.S. borrowing hits the ceiling what implications will that have in the U.S. and internationally? We’ll discuss the tech and housing booms and busts, the great recession, the sovereign debt crisis, and gross public debt projections (as a percentage of GDP). Now for the escape hatch: ideas on an economic growth miracle, major interest rate cuts, bailouts by other governments, outright default, austerity, and money printing. The inflation escape hatch is typically the most appealing to most politicians and is most probable, but it comes with a high risk. It may soon careen out of control and usher in a period of hyperinflation.
