Can you imagine calling your doctor by his or her first name, being hugged and encouraged during an appointment? Few of us have had this experience that Dr. Bernie Siegel’s patients enjoyed! During today’s show, Bernie, as he prefers to be called, will share his journey that began in the 70’s when he was a surgeon. He began hugging his patients, asking them to call him Bernie, listening to them closely and encouraging them to share their feelings verbally and in their drawings. He’ll tell you about starting a therapy group with his wife Bobbie called Exceptional Cancer Patients (ECaP) that still exists. Bernie will also talk about why he believes people become ill and how they can heal themselves. Finally, he will share why love is the greatest healer: “…unconditional love is the most powerful known stimulant of the immune system. Dr. Susan Allison
Dr. Susan Allison has a doctorate in transpersonal psychology and maintains a private practice in Santa Cruz, California. She is also an ordained and licensed interfaith minister, a clinical hypnotherapist, a shamanic practitioner, a healer and healing coach, and practices energy medicine using Reiki and The Reconnection. She is the author of three books: Conscious Divorce, Ending a Marriage with Integrity, published by Three Rivers Press; Breathing Room, by Park Place Publishers; and recently, Empowered Healer, Gain the Confidence, Power and Ability to Heal Yourself, through Balboa Press/Hay House. She has been published dozens of times for her poetry and creative non-fiction, has been honored as a Woman of the Year in California for her counseling work, and currently sees herself as an empowering healing coach. Her mission is to help the planet heal, by helping its people become more empowered, transformed and fulfilled.
