Episode Description

Host, Ida Muorie and Dr.Ab Boonswang, Cardiacthoracic Surgeon will introduced a Four Part Series Concussions in Sports: "Pro-Active Treatment Program for Concussions" over the next four weeks. Tonight Dr.Ab Boonswang will tell his story of how he stumbled into a Pro-Active Treatment Program for Concussion purely by accident, when he read about a technology called "Photobiomodulation." "Photobiomodulation" was written about in 1917, and is used in protocols for stroke patients. As a former Tennis player, he was familiar with degeneration of muscles and tissues after long-term play from a young age competitively, and decided to apply a similar Protocol to the treatment for muscles and scar tissues for his heart patients. Dr. Ab has since developed two devices that have been FDA approved on a limited basis, and several different treatment protocols for different situations. Through the years, he has treated many athletes for muscle and scar tissues, but it wasn't until 2011, when a desperate husband approach Dr. Ab about experimental treatment for his wife, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, that the "Pro-Active Treatment Plan for Concussions" was born. The plan is so simple, it can be used "before" a game as a method of "prevention;" "during" a game as a method of "assessment;" and "after" a game for "management of the impact" of a concussion or successive concussions experience by an athlete. No longer does an athlete have to wait until they are 42 years old, to learn their brain has deteoriated. Today, athletes can pro-actively treat and potentially prevent the long-term potential devastating results. Following the series, Dr. Ab will conduct a controlled treatment study on several retired athlete, and the results will be released during the 2013 Super Bowl Week Program.
