Episode Description

Metaphorically, the term "shepherd" refers to God; as portrayed in Jewish and Christian traditions in the 23rd Psalm, and in Christianity for Jesus, who called himself, The Good Shepherd. Many biblical heroes were shepherds, including the patriarchs Abraham and Jacob, and the prophet Moses, and King David. In the New Testament, angels announced the birth of Jesus to shepherds. Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam, was part of a rich tradition of prophets who earned their livelihood as shepherds. Sikhism also has many mentions of shepherd tales. The term "Pastor", originally the Latin word for "shepherd” is now used solely for clergy of most Christian denominations. In many works of art the shepherd, appears as a virtuous soul because he lived so close to nature, free from the temptations of the city. Tune in this week for modern day examples of “shepherds” like The Shepherds of Good hope and Shepherd’s Ministries who feel called to protect, guide, and watch over a person or group of people.
