Focusing on the Veterans: USO-Metro and Story of a Wounded Hero
March 7, 2013
Hosted by Squire Patton Boggs
On this week’s Capital Thinking, we will learn more about the state of veteran affairs and service programs for wounded soldiers. Our host, Kevin O’Neill, will first visit with Elaine Rogers of the United Service Organizations Metropolitan Washington (USO-Metro) along with Patton Boggs Partners Bob Koehler and Major General Mike Nardotti to discuss USO-Metro’s mission and its growth as a charity adapting to the change of time. In the second half hour, Joe Briseno, Sr. will share the touching story of his son Joseph “Jay” Briseno, Jr., a soldier severely injured in Baghdad that left him paralyzed, brain-damaged and blind, and his family’s love and determination to care for Jay by providing him with around-the-clock care out of their home in Virginia. Also joining Joe will be Bob Koehler, who has long represented Jay and the Briseno family, to discuss the organization, such as Azalea Charities, that provide charitable services for wounded heroes like Jay, and how more people could get involved to help better the quality of life for veterans.
