Acting Techniques for Everyday Life
May 31, 2012
Hosted by Dr. Irene Conlan
You are asked to speak before the group, sing at Karaoke night, or take the microphone at an important event. Yikes! Performance anxiety kicks in. Your hands shake, your throat gets dry, you start to sweat, your stomach gets queasy, you may feel like you are going to faint. The TV commercial says, “Never let them see you sweat” so how do you avoid it? How do we learn to “fake it until we make it”? Jane Marla Robbins, successful actress, performance coach and author, wrote the book “Acting Techniques for Everyday Life: Look and Feel Self-Confident in Difficult Real Life Situations.” Jane will give you some rock solid tips and techniques to overcome shyness and performance anxiety. She will discuss what the actors know and what they do to appear relaxed, confident and in control when they really are anything but that. Unless you are always 100% confident in any situation, you won’t want to miss this show.
The Self Improvement Show
Archives Available on VoiceAmerica Empowerment Channel
The Self Improvement Show was created because almost everyone wants to be better, do better, and achieve more, but we don't always know how to do that. We aren't looking for perfection. We are simply trying to improve in ways that allow us more happiness, contentment and success with some laughter along the way. We address issues common to us all and suggest useful tools that will help you tap into your strengths and your wonderful uniqueness. We think most self improvement is an "inside job" so we talk a lot about how to "go within" to make lasting changes. We talk to people who have struggled and won and have great stories to tell as well as those who live ordinary lives in extraordinary ways. The show is laid back, informative and down to earth. The welcome mat is always out and we invite you to join us.

Dr. Irene Conlan is serious about helping you find the tools you need to achieve your self improvement goals and begin to experience the happiness you deserve and desire.
She has a Masters degree in nursing and a Ph.D. in metaphysics. Irene has taught nursing at ASU, served as Administrator of Nursing at a major Phoenix hospital, and served as Assistant Director in the Arizona Department of Health Services. A certified hypnotherapist, Irene has had her own therapy practice for the past 16 years.
Irene believes that in this stressful world we need help more than ever. We rush from one place to the next, to work, the store, to appointments, to get our kids to soccer practice, ballet, gymnastics, school or the mall. We can be found 24/7 by email, cell phone, or pager. We are stretched to the max and wonder why we can’t sleep, can’t think, and can’t relax. We are enticed by drugs, alcohol and sex to give us an outlet or deal with the stress and many choose to use them. Some rage. Some over-exercise. Some go out and shoot other people. Some simply quit.
In this frenetic activity there is one constant – we are each looking for happiness. Ask the addict, the thief, the anorexic, the debutante, the CEO, service professionals, people you meet on the street or while shopping – ask them what they want. They will, if they can verbalize it, tell you what they truly want is happiness.
Let’s talk about the improvements we can make that help us be happy now.
