Employee Engagement: What You Need to Know
June 26, 2013
Hosted by Marcia Zidle
It’s in the moments of making the right decisions at the right times that leaders can make a positive, constructive impact on employees and the organization. Many leaders are finding that their employees are not active or happy participants in the greater purpose of the organization. In fact, historic Gallup research indicates that the current state of employee engagement in the United States is dismal (and by the way, the numbers in the United States were higher than for any other country). This discussion explains what an engaged employee is and why engagement is vital to both individuals and the organization, i.e., improved performance, employee satisfaction, and talent retention. We offer a new perspective on how our attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors can create a work environment that either fosters engaged employees, or contributes to employees' lack of engagement, and also identify nine principles as action steps for building a more fully engaged and satisfied workforce.
