Accuracy in Adoptees Act Signed by President Obama
January 25, 2014
Hosted by Kelly Ellison
A common problem when children are abandoned at orphanages without any birth record is they will receive an incorrect birthdate. When US adoptions are processed, the foreign country assigns a ‘best guess’ birth date and is then used in processing the paperwork. These birth dates can be inaccurate and while the States have a process for amending this when the proper information/evidence is presented, the US agencies will not accept these amended dates. Imagine having two different dates of birth – one for federal document such as social security and passport and another for state documents such as the birth certificate and driver’s license. This causes a multitude of problems and until this Act was signed into Law – did for many families. Karen Law, Attorney and international sub-committee member for the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys along with Michaela Sims, Chamber Hill Strategies join us to learn how wide-spread this issue is and how it will help so many families.

We will examine international and domestic adoption, resources, costs, stories, highlight innovative agencies and bring the touching stories of families struggling and succeeding to the forefront. There is no greater community builder than Adoption! When we educate and encourage others to become involved, more people are inspired to adopt or be a part of a community of adoption. Our show aims to educate and inspire others to get involved in building a family be it on their own or helping someone close to them bring their family home together forever.
