Episode Description

Maddie was a Miniature Schnauzer whose unconditional love, devotion, loyalty and spirit inspired her guardians to start a charitable foundation, Maddie's Fund®, in her name. Dave Duffield is a recognized pioneer in enterprise software and human resources technology and the founder of Workday and PeopleSoft. He and his wife Cheryl fell head-over-heels for Maddie and they shared ten memorable and happy years together. Dave remembers one particular day during the formation of his company, PeopleSoft. Playing with Maddie, he picked her up and made the following promise: "If we ever make some money, I promise we will give it back to you and your kind so others can be as happy as we are today." They have endowed Maddie's Fund with more than $300 million with a goal of both no kill animal shelters throughout the United States and for every available animal to be adopted by the end of 2015. Tune in to In Black and Weitz to hear this compelling story Tuesday at 10 AM Eastern Standard Time.
