Episode Description

Max Weber credited the Protestant ethic with giving rise to capitalism. Now it sometimes seems as if it is the Buddhist ethic that is keeping capitalism going. – The Economist, 11.16.13. Just 5 years ago, who could have imagined that The Economist would consider Buddhism to be a defining model for our modern global organizations? Yet today, Google, McKinsey, Wharton, P&G and dozens of other enterprises are exploring the impact that such ancient wisdom has on employee well-being and business outcomes. So can 2,600 year old spiritual practices actually make a difference? And how are organizations applying this spiritual wisdom to our current chaotic global challenges? Join me and author, executive coach, and former corporate executive Michael Carroll, as we explore the practice of mindfulness awareness meditation, review how such training is being applied in organizational settings and discuss the impact Buddhism is having in promoting health and well-being in the workplace.
