Demitri Sgourakis is one the most accomplished designers in Los Angeles. Born in New Jersey, he studied Interior Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and attended their Art and Architecture program in England and their French Costume and Design school in Paris. After an apprenticeship with legendary decorator Bette Baer of Schwartz Furniture and Design, Demitri relocated to Los Angeles where he became Design Director for the international home furnishings brand Kreiss before founding his own firm, Demitri Christian Interior Design, Inc. Demitri is best known for his modern approach to an eclectic interior. His knowledge and appreciation for the past combined with an eye for fashion forward style, has resulted in fresh, yet classic, environments that come together by expertly mixing a combination of contemporary and antique furnishings. He believes a room is never really done; that it should not only reflect the client through design and things they love but also grow along with that person as they evolve. Whether designing in the neutral palates for the collections he has shepherded or in the rich color statements he creates for his private clients, Demitri's respect for timeless tradition, quality, and attention to detail is ever-present in his work. His interest and passion for history, art and design as well as an appreciation for the esthetic values across cultures inspires him to be a dynamic host of Matters of Design.
