Episode Description

In this episode I will be talking with Betsy Farver-Smith, the executive director of treatment services from the Betty Ford Center about what a drug and alcohol inpatient treatment facility is and isn't. The way we view addiction and the current problem has changed dramatically since the Betty Ford Center has opened its doors in 1982. Because of old stereotypes, there are many misconceptions and stigma's attached to inpatient treatment facilities which hold people back from getting the help they need. We need to change this! Topics for discussion will include how treatment has changed over the years, the process of admission, the treatment process (how they help), and what an inpatient treatment facility is and isn't.

I Took the High Road

I Took the High Road

Friday at 7 AM Pacific Time on VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness Channel

I Took the High Road is a show about addiction and recovery with a host that has firsthand experience with both. With the current drug problem reaching epidemic proportions, my goal is to teach you to approach this situation differently. We need to fight the demand for drugs, not the supply. I will educate about the disease of addiction and change the way we view current judicial standards and recovery methods. It is my goal to take the stigma out of drug addiction and remove barriers to treatment. Addicts are not bad people trying to get good, they are sick people trying to get well. I Took the High Road is broadcast live every Friday at 7 AM Pacific Time on the VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness Channel.

Jacob Patrick Jansen

My name is Jacob Jansen and I have traveled the road of both addiction and recovery. I was a scholar athlete in high school, and shortly after, landed a great job as a day trader at a major hedge fund. My life quickly spiraled out of control as I moved from marijuana to prescription opiates. I became opiate dependent, and before I knew it, I was an IV heroin user for many years until I got clean on July 19, 2010.

Since then I have made it through the judicial system, graduated from University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, started My Recovery Project LLC and All-Encompassing Addiction Recovery LLC, became a certified intervention specialist and recovery life coach, became a father, was voted to the board of directors for Recovery Coaches International, became an administrator for stop heroin Wisconsin, and became a radio show host for the VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness channel.

I have a passion for helping addicted individuals and their families find help. I am flexible, knowledgeable, caring and experienced. Finding help for an addiction can be a difficult process. I experienced what heroin addiction had done to me and my family and I have made it my mission to help educate families about the disease of addiction, and help those who need help, and get the help that is required. I have found happiness in my recovery, reconnected with my family, and have found balance in life. Successful recovery is possible with help. I am proof.
