Guest April Bowling and I will discuss the issue of childhood obesity, food and health environments for children in the US today and how it is contributing to the physical, social and emotional health of our youth. We will discuss April's research with the Harvard School of Public Health, her work as director of the TriRok Foundation, as well as suggestions for how to improve the future and health of our kids today.

Jennifer Wren Tolo RN, MA

Jennifer Wren Tolo is a mother of four boys living with her family in Essex, Massachusetts. Jen is a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Virginia and a Masters in Arts degree in nursing administration from New York University. She has a background in critical care having worked in several Intensive Care Units as both a staff nurse and a nursing supervisor. Through her children, she experienced the other side of health care. One son had a stroke at birth and subsequently has ADHD and learning disabilities. Another son had acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is through these experiences with health care and seeing food’s impact on health that led her to change her path to a more holistic and integrative approach towards wellness. She became a Reiki master, an ACE certified personal trainer and a certified Holistic Health Counselor through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. In 2008, Jennifer started Butterfly Family Wellness to help families discover their way to health through whole person focused care and lifestyle management. She teaches fitness and cooking classes for adults and children, and leads dynamic and integrative school and community workshops related to mind/body management, health and nutrition. Jen is a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and the American Holistic Nursing Association.
