Episode Description

In this episode I talk with Beverly Buncher, CEO of Family Recovery Resources about the family dynamics of addiction and how to change the unhealthy behavior within the family. Addiction is a family disease. The behavior of a person who is using can affect members of the family and conversely, behaviors from members of the family can contribute to the unhealthy cycle of addiction for the individual. In this very important episode, we will learn how to erase judgments that create barriers between families & their loved one, regain the inner calm and peace they thought they’d lost forever, learn how to avoid the mental obsession that plagues so many families caught up in their loved one’s lives and discuss how family's start enjoying their lives again, regardless of their addicted individuals choices.

I Took the High Road is a show about addiction and recovery with a host that has firsthand experience with both. With the current drug problem reaching epidemic proportions, my goal is to teach you to approach this situation differently. We need to fight the demand for drugs, not the supply. I will educate about the disease of addiction and change the way we view current judicial standards and recovery methods. It is my goal to take the stigma out of drug addiction and remove barriers to treatment. Addicts are not bad people trying to get good, they are sick people trying to get well.

Jacob Patrick Jansen

My name is Jacob Jansen and I have traveled the road of both addiction and recovery. I was a scholar athlete in high school, and shortly after, landed a great job as a day trader at a major hedge fund. My life quickly spiraled out of control as I moved from marijuana to prescription opiates. I became opiate dependent, and before I knew it, I was an IV heroin user for many years until I got clean on July 19, 2010.

Since then I have made it through the judicial system, graduated from University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, started My Recovery Project LLC and All-Encompassing Addiction Recovery LLC, became a certified intervention specialist and recovery life coach, became a father, was voted to the board of directors for Recovery Coaches International, became an administrator for stop heroin Wisconsin, and became a radio show host for the VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness channel.

I have a passion for helping addicted individuals and their families find help. I am flexible, knowledgeable, caring and experienced. Finding help for an addiction can be a difficult process. I experienced what heroin addiction had done to me and my family and I have made it my mission to help educate families about the disease of addiction, and help those who need help, and get the help that is required. I have found happiness in my recovery, reconnected with my family, and have found balance in life. Successful recovery is possible with help. I am proof.
