Reverse mortgages have received a bad reputation, but recent research has demonstrated how financially responsible individuals can improve their retirement sustainability with a reverse mortgage. David Cook specializes in reverse mortgages and spends a great deal of time educating senior homeowners on the pros and cons of these type of mortgages. There are a barrage of “financial advisors” ready and willing to help, but do not have the experience or expertise as Darleen. Darleen M Gilmore, CFP®, CDFA™

Darleen M. Gilmore, a Certified Financial Planner(tm) Professional and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst(tm), has been in the financial planning business for over 34 years. She began her career in Houston, Texas as an entry level manager trainee with a major Wall Street investment firm. She was soon promoted to Vice President with affiliated offices in Dallas, Albuquerque, St. Louis and Austin.

In 1992 Darleen formed her own firm which is now the Austin Wealth Specialists. Darleen conducts educational seminars and speaks at conferences such as the Executive Women in Texas Government.

Darleen also authored a book, “Understanding Biblical Financial Freedom”, which is used at various churches throughout the city.

As a Certified Financial Planner(tm) Professional, you can be sure that she provides expert and professional planning services.

As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst(tm) she helps her clients avoid the common financial pitfalls of divorce by offering valuable insight into the pros and cons of different settlement proposals.

Darleen is also an active member of the Financial Planning Association and is very active in the community serving on several boards. She is a graduate of the 1998 class of Leadership Texas and was featured on a national television program, “New Attitudes” providing financial advice for a local couple.

Darleen is married and loves playing golf and board games.

Jaclyn Berry



Vice President & Trust Officer—Distinctive Care/Special Needs Care

Jaclyn Berry is a Vice President and Trust Officer with Cumberland Trust, where she oversees the special needs department and provides account administration and relationship management for special needs trusts, charitable and insurance trusts. As a member of the real estate management team, Ms. Berry is responsible for real estate transactions including the review of contracts to buy or sell. In addition, she manages the day-to-day responsibilities of the firm's master policy, which currently consists of 175 properties. Prior to joining Cumberland Trust, Ms. Berry worked as a legal assistant and real estate closer, administering client accounts and closing residential and commercial transactions. She has also worked in estate planning and drafted legal documents including special needs trusts. Ms. Berry has a B.A. in Sociology from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee and is a member of the National Trust Real Estate Association, Inc. (NTREA). In this position, David is providing direct assistance to Realtors and other trusted advisors to seniors in order to provide options to seniors they so richly deserve and know very little about. David has been active on committees for the Austin Mortgage Bankers Association and Texas Mortgage Bankers Association. He currently is an approved instructor with the Texas Real Estate Commission and Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending for classes presented to Realtors and Mortgage Professionals. Dr. Shirley Sprinkles-Morris



Dr. Shirley Sprinkles-Morris is a semi- retired career educator and author of two books: From Dunbar to Destiny: One Woman’s Journey through Desegregation and Beyond, and Seven Keys to Successful Single Parenting. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1960. After teaching for approximately 14 years, she left the classroom in 1974 to work as Education Liaison to schools from the office of a prominent Los Angeles City Councilman. Her work brought her face to face with the problems of inner-city schools, students and parents. Solving them became her life-long passion. She organized citizen task forces to address school problems and to bring about more equitable education to under-served minority students and families. In 1985 she returned to the classroom and soon earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Cal State Los Angeles. Dr. Sprinkles moved to Austin after receiving a full scholarship in 1990 to the graduate school in UT’s Dept. of Bilingual Education. She completed her graduate work through a fellowship in the Cooperative Superintendency Program (CSP) in 1994 with a doctorate in Educational Administration, while working full time as Program Director in the Division of Gifted Education at the Texas Education Agency. She is currently practicing part-time as an independent intervention consultant assisting with the “turnaround” process of school districts whose accountability ratings are “Academically Unacceptable” and she is currently the President of the Austin Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). She is a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, and is married to Minister Leo Morris, Senior’s Minister.
