Episode Description

In honor of Black History month, I want to spend some time discussing how Black Women impact our economy. When it comes to financial stability, black Americans are often in much more precarious financial situations than white Americans. Their unemployment rate is higher, and so is the level of poverty within the black community. In 2013, the poverty rate among white Americans was 9.6 percent, among black Americans it was 27.2 percent. And the gap between the wealth of white families and black families has widened to its highest levels since 1989, according to a 2014 study by Pew Research Center. Dr. Shirley Sprinkles will discuss with us the impact teen pregnacies are having on our society and ideas on how to stop the trend.

Women B Wise: Helping Women Gain Financial Empowerment

Archives Available on VoiceAmerica Business Channel

“Women B Wise” is a program devoted to women in transition, such as recently widowed or divorced, looking to retire within five years or changing jobs or careers. These critical financial events often trigger the need to make financial decisions about funds inherited, funds received through divorce settlement, or 401(k) rollovers. There are a barrage of “financial advisors” ready and willing to help, but do not have the experience or expertise as Darleen. As a specialist in mid-life financial issues, Darleen will help clarify many issues that arise.
