August 19, 2015
Hosted by Jim Blackburn
They like your ideas about the changes that need to occur, and they are asking you to take responsibility for implementing your suggestions. This means significantly increased responsibilities, the need to build a team and a pay increase with multiple incentives. This is both scary and exhilarating for you. When accepting enhanced career opportunities similar to the one described above, whether it be with a new organization or with your current employer, the negative consequences that follow are significant, yet seldom if ever discussed. In this episode of 'The SURVE Hour', guest Morrie Shechtman, the author of 'Working Without A Net' and nationally acclaimed expert on managing disruptive organizational change, will be in conversation with host Jim Blackburn discussing the significance of these painful consequences, the phenomenon of how success is so closely linked to failure, and what to do when you find yourself facing these demons of success.

The SURVE Hour is a different kind of listening experience. This counterintuitive broadcast has been created as a conversation inviting you to be part of the bigger conversation. Each broadcast will consist of an insightful and provocative conversation between Jim Blackburn and a guest who will share how she or he is seeing and experiencing his or her world differently as a business leader, educator, or parent.
The SURVE broadcasts will be of interest to those of us responsible for overseeing the work and development of other people. A wide range of topics will be discussed in a format that will challenge your current beliefs about your awareness of such things as the side effects of busyness and how it undermines core values, the unspoken causes of burnout, the double-edged sword called success, how competing limits growth, the redefinition of work, and how the majority of our struggles are self-imposed, and more.
