In his recently released book A New Psychology for Sustainability Leadership: The Hidden Power of Ecological Worldviews, Dr. Steven Schein posits that sustainability leaders have developed an ecological self, a post-conventional worldview, and an enhanced systems consciousness. Drawing on insights from eco-psychology, deep ecology, ecological economics, social psychology, environmental sociology, indigenous studies, integral ecology, and developmental psychology, and based on interviews with 75 global sustainability leaders in more than 40 multi-national organizations, Dr. Schein has concluded that effective sustainability leaders are deeply motivated by an ecological worldview -- seeing one's relationship to the natural world through the lens of ecology rather than a human-centric view. The faculty of the Institute for Transformational Leadership at Georgetown University are multifaceted and diverse with respect to academic training, practical experience, expertise, and research interests. Perhaps the most striking aspect of the faculty is the community they have cultivated and the dialog they have advanced around leadership development and leadership coaching. Most of the original faculty members – those who helped establish Georgetown University’s leadership coaching program in 2000 – still teach and provide direction for leadership coaches and executive leaders, while new perspectives continue to evolve and inform our programs.
