Dr. Hayat Sindi was named by Newsweek as one of 100 Fearless Females Changing the Word. Recognized by Arabian Business as the 9th most powerful Arab woman, she is combining her passions for science and innovation to build an institute promoting innovation and social impact in the Middle East - i2 Institute for Imagination and Ingenuity will launch 12 science and technology businesses in the Middle East by 2014. As a teen, Dr. Sindi left her home in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, and worked against the odds to become the first female from the Gulf to earn a PhD in biotechnology, studying at King’s College London, Cambridge, MIT and Harvard. The co-founder of Diagnostics For All, offering cost-effective diagnostic tools enabling the treatment people living beyond the reach of medical infrastructures, she has been a PopTech fellow linking science and social impact. Dr. Sindi is a National Geographic Emerging Explorer, a Global Ambassador for Vital Voices and is a member of the Nifty Fifty.
