Tini Grey
The authentic nature of Tini Grey’s music and the strength of his appeal lie in his smooth voice and compelling songwriting. The fully realized mainstream immediacy of his music conjures up cornerstone artists such as Jack Johnson and John Mayer, and in a similar fashion, Tini Grey is emerging with just as unique and soulful songs. Born of Samoan heritage, Grey grew up in a famous musical family with a lot of good mojo. He is the son of well-known Samoan singer/songwriter Jerome Grey who defined a genre of island pop and folk that has influenced an entire generation of Polynesian musicians to this day. Aware of the negative taboo associated with following in father’s musical footsteps, Tini was forced to carve out a distinct musical path separate from the iconic career of his dad. He has now transcended that precipice and is poised to reach a much broader market with his debut crossover album “Shades of Grey”. Despite his inherent musical talent, Tini shied away from the business until his 30′s, choosing to focus his attention elsewhere, namely marrying the girl of his dreams, former Miss America Angela Perez Baraquio. He also studied architecture in Los Angeles, an apt metaphor for the kind of craftsmanship and design he now brings to his songwriting. Tini began to contemplate his own musical destiny in 2006 when his father suffered a stroke while performing on stage. Not long after that, Tini’s innate passion to write and play inevitably became his life path. Tini’s first EP, “Better Place” garnered rave reviews and radio play out of the gate. He was courted to play events across the US to the South Pacific, hitting such venues as the Ford Amphitheater, House of Blues Anaheim and the Ho’olaulea Island Festivals in California. Upon returning, Tini entered the studio once more, this time to record a full length album he could use as a vehicle for his new found confidence. In a way, Tini Grey’s honest and genuine progression as a musician is a testament to what can be achieved with faith, perseverance and a huge serving of talent. When Tini sings you can expect a shot of Johnson’s laid back sensibilities, a twist of Mayer’s breathy pop leanings, all neatly tied together with the tasty styling of Al Green and other soul greats. Add to that the sincerity of delivery that is uniquely Tini and you will get another standout musician that is slated for great things. “Shades of Grey” is a sophisticated blend of Acoustic, Pop and Soul. An exploration of love, passion, pleasure and empowerment through keen storytelling and heart-felt insight that showcases the varied experiences of a young man creating the life of his dreams. The leadoff single “Home Again” taps the essence of reuniting with a loved one, played to the tune of breezy back porch pop, invoking G. Love & Special Sauce.
