Jean-Louis Peta Ikambana
Jean-Louis Peta Ikambana is Director of the American Friends Service Committee-DC Peace and Economic Justice Program, recipient of the United Nations Association of Washington, DC Chapter, 2010 Community Human Rights Award, and runs the DC Human Rights City Program. He holds Masters Degrees in International Affairs, Political Science and Criminal Justice, as well as a Ph.D. in African American Studies from Temple University. He is also the author of Mobutu’s Totalitarian Political System. An Afrocentric Analysis, and co-author of Africa In the 21st Century. Fluent in Lingala, Kikongo, Swahili, French, Spanish and English, Mr. Ikambana is well known for his dedication to advancing human dignity in international, national and local organizations in Africa, Europe, North and South America. He led a coalition responsible for Washington, D.C. being declared as the first human rights city in the U.S. and he continues to expand human rights learning in D.C. public and private schools.
