Karen Fessel
Karen Fessel is the proud parent of an 18 year old son with Asperger's and 14 year old daughter. She has a Doctorate in Public Health from UC Berkeley. Dr Fessel is the executive director and founder of the Autism Health Insurance Project, a non-profit organization which helps families and providers secure insurance coverage for autism interventions. Karen founded the Autism Health Insurance Project after struggling to secure services for her son, and seeing how much an organization to support families in their journey through the insurance maze was needed to get children medically necessary services. She also co-moderates the ASDinsurancehelp, and ASDMedi-Cal yahoo users groups. Prior work experience includes; developing technology assessments and treatment guidelines for the Permanente Medical Group, and conducting research projects at the Department of Public Health and UCSF.
